Academic Programs
Undergraduate Studies
Our undergraduate major enrolls about 120 students and is the only B.S. degree in Biochemistry & Biophysics in Oregon. Since a B.S. program in Biochemistry and Biophysics involves life science, quantitative work, and physical science training, graduates of our program are well-prepared for postgraduate research or training in all aspects of moderm biology. These include, but are not limited to, medicine, forensics, pharmacy/pharmacology, physiology, neurosciences, microbiology, immunology, dentistry, genetics, cell biology, marine biology, and numerous fields in agriculture and biological oceanography. In addition, the success rate of OSU BB students getting into professional schools (medical, dental, pharmacy, and even law school) is the highest on the campus. We encourage our majors to extend their education outside the classrooom by taking advantage of opportunities for undergraduate research.
Graduate Studies
Our steady-state number of graduate students pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees is about 30 with most in our Ph.D. program. Biochemistry & Biophysics faculty also train graduate students enrolled in the related Molecular & Cellular Biology program. Graduate students are major contributors to the research output of the department.
