Course content: A course to investigate at a non-technical level some recent discoveries in biochemistry and molecular biology and their social significance. Individual topics presented vary depending upon the instructor, but have included biochemical genetics, nutrition, biochemical evolution, bioenergetics, biochemistry of the nervous system, hormones, recombinant DNA, biochemistry of development, and biochemistry of the immune response. Class time is divided between lectures and classroom discussions or seminars.

Curricular purpose of the course: Intended for non-science majors at any level or as an introductory course for science or pre-professional students. There are no science prerequisites, although high school biology or chemistry courses would be useful.
