Course content: The seminar program consists of two distinct but interrelated parts: a student seminar series and a departmental seminar series. The student series (1 credit) involves a weekly meeting with the instructor. This series is used as a vehicle to acquaint graduate students with research in progress in the department and to give the students practice in presenting oral research reports in an informal setting. The departmental seminars are held weekly, usually on Friday afternoon. They are open to the university community. Speakers include visiting scientists, members of the OSU faculty, and advanced graduate students discussing their research. First-year graduate students should register for 1 credit. An advanced student should register for 2 credits in the term in which he/she presents a departmental seminar.
